Edit: 5 years relapsed and we still talk about this place!
Called in on chance when passing to go to a concert at Audley End. Pizza was truly excellent, nicely cooked and very tasty, without costing a bomb. Ideal filler before the event, would definitely recommend

Sadly, not really a pub no more. Tis so sad. Needs new life and revamp. Hardly anyone there but two dogs. Food was average but we only had a pizza. The pub had no lemonade and very little on offer except beer to drink. I would go more often if pleasant. Originally it was very good but it is sad now

I do not like putting bad reviews but I have to say given this a 1 star rating is being very generous food was terrible I had to send it back and get a sandwich in its place, gravy was like oxo cubes with water there were black bits in my dinner and the chips were overdone and looked like the fat hadn't been changed in months. I will not be returning. the girls serving were pleasant enough but had to go find them one was standing at end of bar on phone round the corner. avoid at all costs

Worst pub. Such a shame as it was once fabulous. its a mess, not good service. Garden covered in dog poo because landlord is clearly lazy in his running, loos haggered, glasses uncollected. Dogs that have been running around in garden are then left to roam the kitchen during lunch service. Very expensive round of drinks in dirty glasses. Not going to give this place a second chance.

Lovely pub but very disappointed at our experience today.
Booked for Sunday lunch at 2pm. Service was non existent. Had to ask for drinks, then menus then to place order.
Food arrived an hour later. Roast dinner served in bowls….
Gave up an hour later waiting to be asked for dessert or coffee. 2 hours to serve one average course. We shall not be returning.

There was a lovely ambiance within the pub especially when the wood burner was lit! We were served good pub roast dinners although the beef and lamb were a little fatty. Great toffee pudding! Overall the service was a little slow which was not a problem for our chilled family gathering, it would of been nice to of had some empties removed though. Out the back was a decent sized village park for dog walking with a play park.

Unfortunately suffering from a power cut when our party arrived, but we were welcomed non the less and there was a lovely wood fire to keep us all warm.

Very good, just wish there was access to the higher bar so there was access to the loo and outside there is no access to the higher grassed area where there are tables.

What a gem!! We have been out many times post covid and been constantly disappointed with standard of service and quality of food. We went out tonight, spur of the moment to a quiet deserted pub restaurant. But could not be more delighted! Beautiful food, full of flavour!! Don’t let these little gems of local pubs go under. Thoroughly recommend the Lion! You will not be disappointed 😁
